Yeah...no.

Figured I'd post this if you hadn't seen it. It's somewhat amusing, if anything...

Honestly, it's kind of painful...and I actually listen to some hip-hop and rap.

Had to check this out, and honestly I don't think they did a very good job. The original source material for these is recognizable, but not quite compelling enough to support layering with another song (with one or two notable exceptions like the Gerudo Valley theme)... as a huge proponent of rap+video game mashups, I can't recommend these.

It's a great idea in theory, done much better by other smaller groups. I would recommend the Chrono Trigger Mixtape, the album '8-Bit Bullshit' by Mad Hatter (I think that was the artist name), and anything by ytcracker.

let me show you guys a little something about rapping+videogames

i'll have to agree with tom though, in terms of taking actual hip hop songs and overlaying them with videogame music, that chrono trigger mixtape was pretty awesome (although the best was not a chrono trigger song but the snoop dogg overlayed kirby music)

The Get Lich or Die Trying song just needs a better producer and it could actually be a really good parody song. It's one musical hook from being "I'm on a Boat" for the MMORPGers out thur'.

there are superior WoW based spoofs, usually ones that are actual spoofs of existing songs rather than original compositions:

Spoof of "The Way I are" - "Ulduar"

Spoof of "Single Ladies" - "Ninja Raiders"

Same group that did the first two albums in the post (Ocarina of Rhyme and the FF7 one) just put this new one out. I definitely like this one better than the first two and feel the music is a much better match. Definitely worth a listen for any of those with fond Goldeneye memories, and a step in the right direction for Alex Kresovich.

Both of these links are pretty sweet. Duane and Brando have a bunch of video game raps, but the Mega Man II rap is definitely the best. Super Mash Bros. are probably my favorite mash up artists. Check out their two albums in the link. They're not video game related mash ups, but still worth checking out.

Mega Man II rap by Duane and Brando:

Non-video game related mashups that sound like they are video game related by Super Mash Bros.:

Mr. Dizzle, great recommendations. I knew about the Duane & Brando raps, but the Mash Bros CD is incredible. Would you perhaps have a working link to the first one? I can only find their most recent effort ("All About the Scrillions") with the link to the first album on their website being broken.

The only thing I could find was a link for a torrent of it. It's close, but I like their first album a little bit more than the second.

In the meantime, here is the track listing and links to the songs via youtube. The youtube link doesn't have the songs in order, so you'll have to click around a bit.

Tom, if you're a fan of mashups, this is probably the best thing to come out in recent memory. It's the Billboard Top 25 songs of 2009 mashed up into one song. The color coded lyrics link right above the video will make your head spin.

INCREDIBLE. Introduced the rest of the Pack to Super Mash Bros. this weekend - it was the best car ride ever.

Definitely the first one, although both fit on one CD that will pretty much permanently be jammed in my car's player.
